SWOMM – Scientific Workshop on Mountain Mobility and Transport. A specific approach to sustainable mobility.

The Scientific Workshop on Mountain Mobility and transport, now counting its fifth edition, has addressed with growing success of the issues regarding mobility in mountain regions, in particular aiming at expanding and deepen the discussion on the subject.

The Alpine region comprises eight countries and its home to 18 million people. Considering their complexity, the Alps must find a delicate balance between economic development and the protection of the environment.

For this reason, besides a population who is particularly sensitive to environmental issues, also local authorities are open in seeking foradvanced measures and solutions aimed at sustainable development.

The SWOMM fits in this context having become a reference point for experts, operators and local, National and International institutions to discuss about mobility and transport in a region that holds some specific features such as the one where the Alpine arc lies.

The sharing of innovative and successful experiences in the field of sustainable mobility is at the base of their implementation also within the mountain context and, with this kind of event, the intention is to let positive energies which have the same objective meet both on a local and a national level.

Among the institutions and the organizations involved in the previous editions, which have all been promoted by the Italian Ministry of the Environment: the European Commission, the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention, the United Nations Environment Programme, many research centres, transport companies and representatives of the different levels of Italian and foreign local authorities.

The proceedings of the conference are published and distributed in a capillary way in all the alpine region towards those, for their role and function, are more interested in the issues concerning sustainable mobility. Partner institutions benefit from a broad visibility both in the printed publications and in the various communication and dissemination initiatives of the outcomes of the conference already under way or being prepared (press campaign, presentations, communiqués, web sites, newsletters, etc.)
